Section 2(d) in Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 makes tells what a complaint is. A person who aggrieved of a criminal act can lodge a police complaint in the police station of appropriate jurisdiction. However, any person who is aware of the offence may make such complaint. The complaint should be addressed to the Head of the Police Station or Authorised Police Officer. After that the complainant should write the subject line in which he can write the subject in brief. Next the applicant should identify himself by providing his full name, address, citizenship, email ID, phone no etc. Next comes the mentioning a small background which is relevant to the complaint. This can be explained in a paragraph of about 25 to 50 words. In the next paragraph the complainant should mention the sequence of events of the episode which would be as per the facts. This section should be followed by a prayer to the police officer to whom the complaint is addressed. The complainant should sign at the end by putting the date and his full name along with his contact details.
